All About Compounding!
TLC Xpress Pharmacy prides itself in our ability to maintain a pharmaceutical tradition that has been around for centuries. The art of compounding has existed since the early beginnings of civilization. Before synthetic drugs were manufactured, herbalist and druggist were able to mix chemicals, herbs, animal and plant extracts, and fungus to derive certain poisons, antidotes, and concoctions for everyday usage. Currently, compounding pharmacies still retain similar methods of mixing drugs to fit the unique needs of the patients.
Here at TLC Xpress Pharmacy, our goal is to provide special prescription needs tailored for each individual patient. Our staff is highly trained in clean and safe compounding practices. We will work together with our patient's physician to develop unique prescription needs for each patient’s request. Compounding can be done for numerous reasons from change of dosage forms, to avoiding non-essential allergenic ingredients, to simply adding taste and appearances. For patients who have difficulties swallowing tablets or capsules, we will find the next best fit alternative delivery system such as a liquid or topical dosage form. If a child or pet refuse to take medications due to the taste or appearance, we can transform that "yucky" medication into a lollipop, gummy bear, or add some flavors to make the medication taste better. For our geriatric patients whose stomach are sensitive to the ingestion of oral pain meds, we can prepare topical pain medications in cream, ointment, or gel bases that have less gastrointestinal side effects.
